The Hawkeyes never had unrealistic fantasies about winning a national championship this season, but they were expecting more than this. A 15-17 finish, another season without an NCAA Tournament berth and a Big Ten championship drought that has now reached 30 years has an entire fan base depressed and annoyed. Not to mention the head coach.
Todd Lickliter's team improved by two victories this season, but injuries and suspensions prevented a larger turnaround.
Cyrus Tate and Jeff Peterson spent most of the season dealing with nagging ankle injuries. Freshman Anthony Tucker began the season as the team's leading scorer, but quickly fell out of favor and was academically ineligible for the conference season.
