NCAA clears Indiana freshman to play basketball (AP)

Indiana freshman Bawa Muniru has been cleared by the NCAA to play college basketball this season. The Hoosiers had been waiting for the NCAA's eligibility center to make its ruling on Muniru, a 6-foot-11, 260-pound center from Tumu, Ghana. Muniru played high school ball the last two seasons in the U.S.

Former Indiana coach Bob Knight will not attend next week's induction into the athletic department's hall of fame. Athletic director Fred Glass said Thursday that Knight contacted him directly to decline the invitation. Glass said Knight was concerned that the interest in him would be a distraction from the other six inductees.

Indiana donors pay $75K to settle Knight lawsuit (AP)

Private donors are giving $75,000 to Bob Knight to settle a lawsuit he filed against Indiana University claiming it didn't properly defend him when he was sued by a former assistant coach. A letter signed by lawyers for the university and Knight says the payment offer from anonymous donors would reimburse the former coach for expenses from the lawsuit by former Knight assistant Ron Felling.

Suffice it to say that Indiana won't have to endure another 6-25 season where a freshman walk-on needs to start 10 games and a team manager needs to see action near the end of the season. Not with three Top 100 recruits, three other strong freshmen and Georgetown transfer Jeremiah Rivers providing reinforcements for the Hurtin' Hoosiers.

"We had games where the roof almost caved in on us and we might not have come back through it, but that never happened," said coach Tom Crean.

Blessed with Top 100 recruits in forward Christian Watford, shooting guard Maurice Cheek and point guard Jordan Hulls, Indiana starts Crean's second year in Bloomington with a significantly higher talent level.
