Idaho's roster is often a patchwork of transfers, from junior college or otherwise, so signing a high school player who is well on the recruiting radar is a positive sign for coach Don Verlin's program.
Verlin signed 6-7 wing Corey Stern from Rainier Beach High, one of the best hoops programs in Seattle. He had interest from bigger schools, as well as offers from several other mid-major programs.
Stern averaged 13 points, 12 rebounds and 4.5 blocks as a senior, and even posted a triple-double in the state's Class 3A state tournament—13 points, 21 rebounds, 10 blocks.
"He is a multi-dimensional forward," Verlin said.
