Theo Smalling of Tampa, Fla., died Monday night, according to a university statement Tuesday. Police said the 22-year-old team captain was shot in the abdomen early Saturday in the parking lot of a nightclub after another man mishandled a firearm.</p><br clear="all" />]]></description>

&lt;p&gt;Often, it's hard to know what to expect when a team experiences a coaching change, but as an assistant under his predecessor, Kevin Nickleberry, interim coach Edward Joyner Jr. recruited every player on the Pirates' roster.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The guy in charge might be familiar to the Hampton players, but he's bringing a new style to the program. The Pirates played a more deliberate game under Nickleberry, but Joyner intends to push the tempo at both ends of the floor in what the new coach describes as "in-your-face basketball."&lt;/p&gt;
