Houston coach Tom Penders wasn't sure what to expect from his team in 2008-09, considering he was plugging so many new players into a lineup that had lost five seniors from the previous year.

So getting back to the College Basketball Invitational for a second straight year might not have been what Cougars fans were hoping for after the team finished the regular season with a 21-11 record, but for Penders, it was a chance to continue the team's climb into perennial postseason squad.
