Gani Lawal scored 18 points and freshman Derrick Favors added 15 to lead No. 22 Georgia Tech to an 84-76 overtime exhibition win over Indiana University of Pennsylvania on Sunday. Lawal had six points as the Yellow Jackets outscored the visitors 12-4 in overtime. Favors, a 6-foot-10 forward, had nine rebounds and three blocks for Georgia Tech.

After a miserable season that produced only two ACC victories during the regular season, Georgia Tech is looking to make a major move up in 2009-10.

The reason for the optimism is a solid nucleus of veterans that has been joined by one of the nation's top recruiting classes, which features 6-10 forward Derrick Favors, rated No. 3 overall by Rivals.com.

With the return of forward Gani Lawal, the team's No. 2 scorer and leading rebounder last season, and Zach Peacock, the Yellow Jackets will have no reason to fear any opponent inside.

Throw in veterans Iman Shumpert and Mo Miller along with freshman Mfon Udofia in the backcourt, and D'Andre Bell and Lance Storrs on the wings, and coach Paul Hewitt will have one of the deepest rosters in the country.
