Travis Leslie scored 14 points and Georgia defeated Pepperdine 64-47 on Wednesday night. The Bulldogs (7-4) trailed 6-5 early, but led the rest of the game. Trey Thompkins scored 12 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for Georgia, and Ricky McPhee added 10 points. In what has to be one of the more startling developments among SEC teams in the early season, one of the hottest teams at the Christmas break was Georgia.

The Bulldogs, who had dropped their previous two games against Virginia Tech and St. John's by double digits, have won their past two outings—and not because they just hit a soft spot in their schedule.

They came back from a 10-day layoff following the loss to St. John's with a gutty performance in a 70-67 victory over Illinois.

The game was played in Duluth, Ga., about 44 miles from the Georgia campus, which would seem to favor the Bulldogs. But that wasn't the case.

The crowd of 4,008 seemed to be heavily in support of the Illini, who entered the game with an 8-2 record.
