Duke doesn't have many guards. The ninth-ranked Blue Devils sure haven't lost their long-range touch. They matched a school record with 18 3-pointers in a 104-67 romp against Radford on Saturday behind a season-high 20 points from freshman Andre Dawkins. After relying on its perimeter game the last couple of years, Duke will try to be more physical in 2009-10.
Veterans Lance Thomas and Brian Zoubek bring starting experience up front, and the Blue Devils hope to get more out of sophomores Olek Czyz and Miles Plumlee.
But the biggest factor in the remaking of the Blue Devils appears to be the arrival of forwards Mason Plumlee, Miles' younger brother, and Ryan Kelly. Both are listed at 6-10 and seem to be capable of competing for starting positions.
At the very least, they add considerable depth at forward.
There's also experience on the wing with Kyle Singler, a 6-8 3-point shooter who also can step inside, and senior Jon Scheyer. ...More |
