Jeff Foote had 17 points and nine rebounds and Cornell reached 20 victories for the third consecutive season with a 74-60 victory over Brown on Saturday night. For the first time in 59 years, Cornell enters the week with a national ranking.
A 36-point shellacking of Harvard opened enough eyes to get the Big Red into the ESPN/USA Today coaches poll as the No. 25 team in the nation. Though the team is not ranked in the AP poll, it has the second-most votes of any unranked team.
And it made a statement to the rest of the Ivy League. This veteran team and two-time defending Ivy League champion does not intend to relinquish the crown.
Through four games, the Big Red has an average margin of victory of 29.3 points. It has held opponents to fewer than 48 points per game on average, and can beat opponents in a variety of ways.
