Freshman Kawhi Leonard scored 13 points to lead a balanced attack as San Diego State snapped a seven-game losing to Arizona with a 63-46 win Saturday night. All of the qualities that Arizona's best teams have demonstrated over the past two decades were vividly on display. The problem is, it was San Diego State showing them off.
First-year coach Sean Miller makes no bones about it: The Wildcats are not ready for prime time. Not yet.
"It was men among boys—I'll shoot 'til I make it," Miller said after his squad lost 63-46 at San Diego State. "I almost hoped they made the first one. It would have made it easier on us not to have to watch them get three and make the third one."
The host Aztecs, who had lost seven straight to Arizona, outrebounded the Wildcats 38-25 and outscored them 40-24 in the paint, scoring 16 points off 17 offensive rebounds. ...More |
