Alabama began the season with so much promise, looking to contend for the SEC Western Division title with the return of point guard Ronnie Steele from a year off to recover from injuries.

But before the season was over, Steele had left the team, coach Mark Gottfried had resigned under pressure, and the Tide had lost eight of their next nine games after starting SEC play with a win over LSU.

Somehow, though, the Tide managed to finish with a winning record at 18-14, though that wasn't good enough for a bid to one of the postseason tournaments.

Now comes time for the rebuilding.
