Just before the start of this college basketball season, UCLA received a letter of inquiry from the NCAA, seeking information about possible illegal contact between a recruit and a person representing the interests of the university.

The recruit was Kevin Love, now the Bruins' star freshman center. The person representing the interests of the university was John Wooden. The NCAA has not disclosed who made the complaint. Love and his family visited Wooden during his recruiting trip.

So what if he did, He's not on the coaching staff he does set plays for the team. This happens at every college in America a friend of the program calls a recurit and ask them are they interested then tell them the good of the program and what the school has done for them it just like when you have a job and you know some one else thats working some where else and you get them into your job.

It is amazing the free pass he receives! He cheated to win the championships that he won when he was coaching. He is the major reason the NCAA now has recruiting violations. How can the NCAA discipline a Michigan booster for his involvement with the FAB 5, but turn a blind eye to the moves made by UCLA and its boosters over the years. If you take away the FAB 5 from the record books then you should take away UCLA.

Rules are rules, and apparently UCLA thinks they're above them because of the Wooden heritage. If they broke the rules, they should pay.....just like Michigan did.

If you knew anything or read anything about Coach Wooden, you would understand that he is a man of integrity and gives advice to ANY person whom he speaks with. John Wooden won championships with a mix of discipline and talent. Bill Walton, Sidney Wickes, Lew Alcindor and others came to UCLA to play for a coach who built the pyramid of success based on good morals, character discipline and a good education. The fact that John Wooden is a legend in sports is much less important to him than his beliefs in life lessons and teaching young people to live life to the fullest. So, again, to claim that UCLA and/or John Wooden have an inappropriate relationship with any recruit is insane!

Coach John Wooden is an employee of UCLA, and in that respect is not considered a booster. All UCLA has to do is show payroll records. The NCAA should investigate all claims and when they do UCLA will be cleared. The reporter for this story should done done their homework. If the NCAA want to investigate a program, investigate Southern California. None of the Bruins broke a fellow team mates jaw. I believe any kid who plays basketball and isn't a thug would want to speak with Mr. John Wooden.

I guess my point is not only now with the issues with Kevin Love, but look at the documentary on the UCLA Bruins during their decade of success. Jown Wooden was a mainstay, but so was the booster with money. We know it went on and will always be a part of sports just treat him in the manner you treated Michigan. He may be good for the game and a legend, but where there is smoke there is fire.

Adnizzy and Jamal, if Yahoo had posted the entire article, you would have read about Coach Wooden and his status with UCLA. He is a paid consultant, which ALLOWS him to speak to recruits on behalf of the university. So lets agree to end this rumor now. There was no inappropriate relationship and the person who filed the complaint wasted the time of the university as well as the NCAA.

Adnizzy, Arizona can't even beat their interstate rival so what makes you think they can hang with UCLA? Try playing some defense. Thats how UCLA does it.

    BW,
So all of the records set by Mr. Wooden are legit? No player ever received illegal money while being a student/athlete at UCLA while Wooden was coaching? If you want to put sanctions on coaches such as Kelvin Sampson for phone calls and scratch the Fab 5 fronm the history books then you must take a look at the UCLA Bruins of old. I could careless about Kevin Love he is overrated and needs to stay in school 3 years.

Give me a break. This has got to be the biggest waste of time. "Yes, it was between Duke, Carolina and UCLA. What put UCLA over the top was the free lunch Coach Wooden bought for me. Without that, I would probably be on Tobacco Road."
Meanwhile, Reggie Bush's family is getting money from marketing agencies, Bob Huggins is having grad assistants taking qualifying tests for recruits and Patrick Johnson's dad is now driving an Escalade after his son signed on to play football at LSU. But, I guess this is a much more pressing issue.
Michigan fans: Get over it. You paid a lot of money for a team that could never win it all. Now, enjoy being the Big 10 version of West Virginia

    Jamal,
Has Wooden been sanctioned or proven guilty of any illegal activity, EVER? The answer is no and until that changes, ALL of his records are legit. Do you have any personal knowledge or proof of a UCLA player under John Wooden geeting illegal money? You are fishing for something that is not there.
The only thing that the Fab 5 is famous for is calling a timeout when they didn't have any left. You can not tarnish the titles that UCLA won under John Wooden unless you have proof. And about Kevin Love, if you bothered to watch a UCLA game this year, you would see that he instantly makes that team a national title contender because he is smart and physical down low, which something UCLA has been missing. He does need to stay in school.
