Michigan wants Mountaineers' Beilein

John Beilein

From all indications, West Virginia's John Beilein is not just a candidate to be Michigan's next basketball coach. Beilein is THE candidate.

Michigan athletic director Bill Martin is not tipping his hand publicly, but he appears to have zeroed in on Beilein. There are a few hurdles to overcome before Beilein is introduced as the next coach. Beilein's Mountaineers just finished playing in and winning the NIT, so he has yet to have a face-to-face sit-down with Martin. When that happens, anything is possible.

He would be a great fit for Michigan, he is one of the best coaches in college basketball and i would love to see what he could do at Michigan where he could likely recruit more talent.

Why would he want to stay in Morgantown? Ann Arbor is a beautiful city, I can't see him passing on leaving for greener pastures.

Michigan is a more prestigious university, will offer big bucks, and has abundant talent in state that arean't thugs (just ask Tom Izzo). I still think Michigan should go for more of a name coach, but it can't get any worse than the past decade in Ann Arbor, eh?

All our coaches are passionate and put their hearts into our program! Our coaches know they're in the right spot for them! No matter what yer gonna do to try to steal 'em from us, they won't leave. We ain't got no big flashy city buildings, but we got our MOUNTAINEER PRIDE!!!!!

Sparty fans always have something bad to say when it comes to Michigan... But saying "the rotting, smelly, lice-eaten corpse of bo schembechler" is a bit much...
Always crying about something especially how good we would be if all our players stayed for 4 years. That's where you lose me and why one National Championship is all you'll ever win under Izzo, but it won;t be his last.
Talk about thugs their's a very good reason why these players leave the majority couldn't get into any Institution. Realizing this would help you...

The top rectuits have gone to Michigan havent turned out well and you no why? The coaching wasnt good. If Belien can turn Kevin Pitsnogle, Frank Young, and Mike Gansey, kids who werent even in the top 200 players coming out of high school into all conference players imagine what he can and could have done with players such as Dion Harris and Daniel Horton who were McDonalds all americans. When Belien could be taking in a mcdonalds all american every year, imagine what he could do.

get better and better. Players want to play for him so if they do they will come to morgantown no matter
what. He makes good player great players and the goul to make to the NBA. Why wouldN't they come here but the best thing he dose is win with class and classey players on and off the court.

I just love how people talk about UM & MSU & refer to their athletes as 'thugs'....shows how little they know the schools & state....just being haters...all big schools have issues with players, some keep it hush, hush but not these schools...they dont try to hide anything & discipline these players if it even means kicking them off the team...& if your refferring to the fab five, do some homework people...they werent 'thugs'...few of the players just got paid by some guy who had them in his pockets. Get off your inferior complex people & quit trying to bash what you dont have a clue about.

The Big Ten is overrated, and the Big East was the conference most screwed by the NCAA selection committee this year. Syracuse getting left out with a 10-6 record, and WVU winning (convincingly) the NIT when they should have been in the tournament with only 9 losses, I mean come on. The Big Ten got DOMINATED in football this year (both Michigan and Ohio State were no shows for their bowl games), Ohio State should have been eliminated when Oden the thug tossed a player three rows up and got only a personal, and the second best team this year (Wisconsin) played like a joke. The ONLY reason he would leave would be for more money, certainly not to take a step up in competition.

What about the huge ($2.5 million) buyout if Beilein were to leave? How is Michigan going to pay that and hire him for a million or more? They would be paying 3.5 million for his first year alone. Too bad Ed Martin is not around to help w/ some of Michigan's money. Beilein is a great coach, he gets unknowns to buy into his system at WV, and he almost got to a final four. Imagine what he could do at a nationally recognized school like Michigan? The Michigan name alone gets him in the door of many recruits.

Coach John is a real talent, a true gentelman, a developer of talent and creator of teams not just super stars. He has a team at WVU that can go to the Final 4 and perhaps next year, he will stay to see the fruits of his labor before moving on , if he moves on . He is beloved in the " hills ' and we all hope he stays with us, the Blue and Gold.

Yeah right championship next year and Izzo a spartan for life... Keep drinking that green kool-aide. Their's one reason State played well in the tourney, Tom Izzo! Takes more than a coach to go any further. In Michigan's football case it takes more of a coach to get any further, he's got the players! Both scenario's are equally painful.
All Michigan fans should be thankful Bill Martin passed on Tubby if you compare Lloyd Carr and Tubby over the past 5 years they're stirkingly similiar - anyone thinking Michigan snoozed on Tubby is crazy we didn't need another Lloyd Carr for the basketball program.
Michigan thus far has done everything to right the program. You talk about building a program from scratch Bill Martin and Joe Dumar's. As a Piston and Wolverine season ticket holder both of these instances have been a pleasure to witness. Hire Beilein and it's a text book script. Go Blue!

I wish these VULTURES would stay out of our backyard. Alabama tried (post 13) and it didn't work. PS: Saban is gonna treat you just like the Phins and LSU, he has no class. Anyways, back to the point. I just don't see Beilein going at this point. Say what you want about the NIT, but he just took a very young, talented team, full of mostly freshmen and sophmores to a NIT title. And I believe he will want to see how far he can take this bunch in the next couple seasons. Let's face it, WVU is the next U of Florida. Rich Rod and Beilein are rockstars and you can't have them!!!
