CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) -- Darius Rice scored 32 points to lead four Miami players in double figures as the Hurricanes beat Virginia Tech 85-65 on Tuesday.
James Jones added 16 points, Eric Wilkins had 13 and Robert Hite had 11 for the Hurricanes (10-10, 3-6 Big East), who had more than three double-digit scorers for the first time in conference play this season.
Bryant Matthews led Virginia Tech (10-12, 3-6) with 22 points and Terry Taylor added 15.
Miami moved into a three-way tie with Virginia Tech and Providence for fifth place in the East division of the Big East. Only the top six finishers each seven-team division qualify for the conference tournament.
Rice hit consecutive jumpers as part of a 10-1 Miami run early in the second half to give the Hurricanes a 49-37 lead. Jones scored eight points during an 11-0 run minutes later as the Hurricanes broke the game open.
The Hokies were without their second-leading scorer, Carlos Dixon, for most of the game after he injured his left foot. He will be re-evaluated on Wednesday.
Miami led 37-33 at halftime, led by 17 points from Rice.
The Hurricanes improved to 9-2 at home and beat the Hokies for the fourth straight time. Virginia Tech fell to 1-8 on the road.
