EL PASO, Texas (AP)—Julian Washburn and Gabriel McCulley scored 19 points apiece as UTEP used a balanced effort for an 87-57 victory over Southern on Saturday night at the Don Haskins Center.
Michael Perez added 18 points and John Bohannon grabbed 10 rebounds for the Miners (3-5).
Southern (3-8) was led by Quinton Doggett, who scored 12 points. Mike Celestin scored 11 points, as did Madut Bol, who also had 10 rebounds.
Southern had a difficult night from 3-point range, converting just 5 of 18 attempts.
UTEP scored 21 points off 14 Southern turnovers, and committed just six of its own.
Bol hit a 3-pointer to tie it for Southern early in the game, but the team could not keep up after that. UTEP had an 11-point lead at halftime.
