Mercer’s big 2nd half defeats Chattanooga 67-56
Saturday, Dec 10, 2011MACON, Ga. (AP)—Langston Hall scored 15 points and Mercer rode a big second half to a 67-56 nonconference win Saturday night over Chattanooga.
The Bears (7-3) were down 30-29 at intermission but opened the second half with a 9-0 run to take a 38-30 lead. They outscored Chattanooga 38-26 in the second half.
Hall, Mercer’s leading scorer, made just 4 of 12 shots from the floor, but three were from 3-point range. Teammate Jakob Gollon also finished in double figures with 14 points.
For Chattanooga (2-7), which has lost four in a row—including a double-overtime, 87-85 heartbreaker to the College of Charleston in its previous game—, guards Omar Wattad and Ricky Taylor led the way early. Wattad led all scorers with 20 points and Taylor finished with 11. Their 31 points combined was more than half the Mocs’ total, but they got little help.
