Western Kentucky holds off Bowling Green 60-53
Sunday, Dec 4, 2011BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP)—George Fant scored 13 points and Kahlil McDonald made 4 of 4 free throws in the final 1:04 as Western Kentucky held off Bowling Green 60-53 in a nonconference game Sunday.
After shooting 60.9 percent (14 of 23) in the first half, when they took a 33-21 lead, the Hilltoppers (3-6) slumped to 18.2 percent (4 of 22) in the second half.
Consequently, after Western Kentucky increased its lead to 18 points, 40-22, with 16:32 remaining, the Falcons (4-3) were able to battle back, tying the game at 53 on Scott Thomas’ 3-pointer with 2:18 left.
It was Bowling Green’s turn to go cold after that. The Falcons missed all four of their shots the rest of the way, including a missed dunk by A’uston Calhoun, while Western Kentucky made its final seven points from the free-throw line.
Thomas led Bowling Green with 16 points, including 14 in the second half.
