Gaines leads IPFW over South Dakota 92-87
Saturday, Dec 3, 2011FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP)—Frank Gaines scored 26 points and John Peckinpaugh added 12 as IPFW defeated South Dakota 92-87 on Saturday night.
Jason Smeathers and Michael Kibiloski had 10 points each for the Mastodons (3-3, 1-1 Summit League).
Trevor Gruis had 29 points and seven rebounds to lead the Coyotes (2-5, 0-2). Charlie Westbrook added 18 points, Allen Saint-Gelais 15 and Louie Krogman 12.
Trey McCorkle made two free throws to give IPFW an 88-85 lead with 43 seconds remaining, and South Dakota missed three shots on the other end before being forced to foul. Peckinpaugh made both shots for a 90-85 cushion.
A Gruis layup with 12 seconds remaining made it a one-possession game, but Gaines’ two free throws sealed the win for the Mastodons.
