Rob Lewis added 13 points and Chris Udofia 10 for the Pioneers (6-1). Udofia also had five blocked shots and five assists.
Omar Strong had nine points to lead Texas Southern (1-6). The Tigers only managed 16 points in the first half, shooting just 30 percent. They only trailed by 10, and fared better from the outside in the second half—shooting 57 percent—but Denver shot 61 percent after halftime and opened up a 24-point lead midway through.
The Pioneers, who entered Saturday leading the nation in free-throw accuracy at 83 percent, went 4 for 5 against Texas Southern.
It was the first meeting between the teams.
