Appalachian State defeats UNC Greensboro 78-64
Friday, Dec 2, 2011BOONE, N.C. (AP)—Omar Carter broke out of a scoring slump with a season-high 24 points to lead Appalachian State to a 78-64 win over UNC Greensboro on Thursday night in the Southern Conference opener for both teams.
Carter shot 9 of 15 from the field and matched a career high with 12 rebounds in posting his first double-double of the season.
The Mountaineers (4-2) shot 49.1 percent (27 of 55) from the field and matched a season high with 10 3-pointers in 22 attempts. The Spartans (2-5) were limited to just 31.3 percent shooting (21 of 67), including 5 of 18 from beyond the arc.
Appalachian State fell behind in rebounding 22-11 at halftime, then dominated the glass to end the game with a 41-40 edge on the boards.
The Mountaineers trailed by seven early, but led 43-33 at halftime.
Aaron Brackett and Trevis Simpson led UNC Greensboro with 17 points each.
