CANCUN, Mexico (AP)—Jordan Burgason scored 20 points and Damarius Smith sank two free throws with 10.6 seconds left to seal Lipscomb’s 79-77 victory over Sacred Heart on Wednesday for the Mayan Division championship at the Cancun Challenge.
Deonte Alexander had 12 points and Justin Glenn and Robert Boyd 10 apiece for the Bisons (3-3), who led by 10 with 7:39 to play but had to scramble to win.
Shane Gibson led all scorers with 21 points for the Pioneers (3-3), who led by eight in the first half. Justin Swidorski added 16 and Evan Kelley 12. Kelley also had a game-high seven assists, and Chris Evans grabbed eight rebounds.
The score was tied nine times and the lead changed hands eight times, but Lipscomb prevailed to give coach Scott Sanderson his 200th win at the school.
Burgason had not played in the first five games for violating team rules.
