Northern Iowa beats Old Dominion 63-46

NORFOLK, Va. (AP)—Jake Koch scored 18 points in Northern Iowa’s 63-46 victory over Old Dominion on Saturday night in the season opener for both teams.

Northern Iowa entered the second half leading by eight, 33-25, but went on a 24-12 run to take a 57-37 lead with 5:07 remaining in the game. During the run, Koch hit two 3-pointers, grabbed a rebound and blocked a shot. Koch shot 6 for 8 from the field and also dished four assists.

Anthony James scored 13 points for Northern Iowa and Marc Sonnen added 12 points from the bench.

Old Dominion out-rebounded Northern Iowa 33-31 but shot a paltry 27.3 percent (12 of 44) from the field, compared to 49 percent (24 of 49) for Northern Iowa, and only hit 68 percent (17-25) of its free throws.

Northern Iowa has made a 3-pointer in 360 straight games.
