SALT LAKE CITY (AP)—Tre’Von Willis, Oscar Bellfield and Quintrell Thomas each scored 12 points as UNLV defeated Utah 78-58 Saturday in the regular season finale for both.
The Rebels (23-7, 11-5 Mountain West) won their fifth straight game and clinched the third seed in next week’s conference tournament in Las Vegas.
Josh Watkins scored 18 points and Jason Washburn had 12 amid talk that this could mark the end of coach Jim Boylen’s four-year tenure at Utah.
The Utes (13-17, 6-10 MWC), who will be the seventh seed in the Mountain West tournament, made just 1-of-15 shots to start the game while the Rebels were 9 of 10.
UNLV led 47-22 at halftime and extended the margin to 54-27 early in the second half.
