WASHINGTON (AP)—Vlad Moldoveanu scored 31 points, including 18 after halftime, to lead American University to a 69-53 victory over Colgate on Wednesday night in the Patriot League tournament quarterfinals.
Stephen Lumpkins got his eighth double-double with 19 points and a season high-tying 15 rebounds for No. 2 seed American (22-8), which will play sixth-seeded Lafayette in a semifinal Sunday.
The Eagles have won six in a row.
Yaw Gyawu scored 15 points for No. 7 seed Colgate (7-23), which lost six of its last seven to close out the season.
Nick Pascale scored 14 points and Mitch Rolls added 12 for the Raiders, who lost all three contests against American this year and sank to 0-14 all-time at Bender Arena.
The Raiders trailed by at least five throughout the second half, last closing it to 50-45 on Gyawu’s free throw before American exploded on an 18-4 run.
