Virginia Military Institute beats Radford 71-58

LEXINGTON, Va. (AP)—Nick Gore scored all 11 of his points in the second half as Virginia Military Institute overcame a slow first half in a 71-58 win over Radford on Saturday.

The Keydets shot 28.6 percent in the first half (10 of 35) and were tied 28-28 with Radford at halftime.

The nation’s leading team in scoring (91.1 per game) shot 46.4 percent in the second half (13 of 28) to outscore the Highlanders 43-30 after halftime.

After Evan Faulkner’s 3-pointer put Radford (5-20, 2-13 Big South Conference) up 40-34 with 14:46 left, the Keydets went on a 30-7 run. Stan Okoye’s free throw capped the spurt and put VMI (14-11, 7-8) up 64-47 with 5:37 remaining.

Michael Sparks had 15 points for the Keydets and Okoye finished with 14.

Tolgah Cerrah led the Highlanders with 15 points and 15 rebounds. Jareal Smith chipped in 13 for Radford, which had 14 steals but turned it over 22 times.
