A 7-0 run at the beginning of the game and a 9-0 run late in the first half helped the Skyhawks (9-17, 4-10 Ohio Valley Conference) build a 32-18 halftime lead. Jacksonville State (5-21, 3-12) tried to rally in the second half, but the Skyhawks had an answer each time.

Reuben Clayton and Mike Liabo each had 13 points for Tennessee-Martin, which shot 53.5 percent from the field (23 of 43). Both teams committed a high number of turnovers (26 for Jacksonville State, 25 for Tennessee-Martin), but the Skyhawks did a better job scoring off the mistakes, outscoring the Gamecocks 24-16 in that category.

Nick Murphy had 20 points for the Gamecocks, who were trying for back-to-back victories for the second time this season.
