Akron forces 18 turnovers in 59-41 win over Toledo

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP)—Brett McClanahan’s 10 points and Akron’s defense led to a 59-41 win over Toledo on Saturday night.

The Zips (13-10, 4-5) scored the game’s first six points and forced four turnovers in the first five minutes. Akron led 16-5 with 11:25 to play, and the Rockets (4-19, 1-8) cut their deficit to nine, 16-7, on Hayden Humes’ jumper.

The Zips pulled away from there, going on a 10-2 run to lead 26-9 on Nikola Cvetinovic’s layup with 6:57 left in the first half. Toledo would get no closer than 12 points the rest of the way.

Akron scored 22 points off 16 turnovers and held the Rockets to 31.9 percent from the field (15 of 47), including 3-of-13 shooting from 3-point range.

The Zips shot 45.8 percent from the field (22 of 48) in their fifth straight win over Toledo.

Malcolm Mitchell was the Rockets’ lone double-digit scorer with 11 points.
