Xavier defeats Albany (NY) 88-64
Lyons failed to return a favor from Albany. Weather-related flight cancellations forced the Great Danes to travel by bus. Showing the holiday spirit, Albany offered Lyons, from nearby Schenectady, N.Y., and Tu Holloway, from Hempstead, N.Y., a ride on the bus. Lyons made the trip with them but Holloway couldn’t get to Albany for the ride.
All five Xavier starters scored in double figures. Jamel McLean had a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Holloway, who arrived at the Cintas Center just in time for the 2 p.m. shoot-around, missed a double-double by one assist. He scored 11 points. Kenny Frease had 17 points and nine rebounds and Dante Jackson added 14 points.
Albany (7-7), which saw its three-game winning streak end, could get no closer than eight points during a second half in which it trailed by 24 points. Xavier (8-3) made 14 of 28 3-point shots. Lyons’ six 3-point goals are a career-high. He was 6 for 9 from behind the arc.
Tim Ambrose led the Great Danes with 24 points. Logan Aronhalt added 17 points and Mike Black 11 for Albany.
Xavier led 41-33 at the half.
