TAMPA, Fla. (AP)—Jarrid Famous scored 15 points and grabbed six rebounds, leading South Florida to a 61-49 victory over Auburn on Wednesday night.
Hugh Robertson added 12 points and Ron Anderson Jr. had 12 rebounds and eight points for the Bulls (6-5).
Andre Malone scored 18 points and Earnest Ross added 11 to pace Auburn (3-6).
South Florida had an 11-point lead 7 minutes into the game, but Auburn responded with 13 unanswered points to go up 19-17. The Bulls led 28-24 at halftime and increased their advantage to as many as 15 late in the second half.
South Florida outscored Auburn 19-1 from the free-throw line in the second half and 22-8 for the game. The Bulls also outrebounded the Tigers 40-28.
The Tigers, who lost their second straight, posted their lowest point total since Dec. 4, 2005, when they lost to Pittsburgh 78-41.
Auburn’s Frankie Sullivan played 10 minutes in his first game since returning from offseason knee surgery. He scored four points, including a 3-pointer.
USF forward Augustus Gilchrist missed his second consecutive game because of “philosophical differences” with coach Stan Heath. The 6-foot-10 junior is averaging 10.7 points and 6.1 rebounds a game, second on the team in both categories.
South Florida’s victory was its first in five meetings with the Tigers. The schools last met exactly 31 years ago in Tampa.
