NEW YORK (AP)—Mike Glover scored 28 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Iona over Long Island 88-82 on Wednesday night.
The Gaels (6-3) scored 56 points in the paint and 22 on second chances for their sixth straight win.
Alejo Rodriguez and Scott Machado added 13 points apiece for Iona.
The Gaels led 45-32 at halftime, but the Blackbirds (5-3) used an 18-4 run midway through the second half to pull within one. Jamal Olasewere’s layup brought it to 61-60 with 8:49 left. From there Long Island led once, 67-66, on C.J. Garner’s free throws with 5:57 and pulled within one point five times.
The final time came with 3:30 left, but Iona scored nine straight to put it away. The Gaels shot 45.3 percent from the field (34 of 75), including an 11-of-12 effort from Glover.
Julian Boyd led the Blackbirds with 20 points. Garner finished with 15 and Olasewere 12.
