Harper scores 23 to lead Richmond to 67-61 victory

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP)—Justin Harper scored 15 of his season-high 23 points in the first half to help lead Richmond past Arizona State 67-61 Sunday.

Kevin Anderson added 14 points and Dan Geriot had 11 for the Spiders (7-2), who won for the fifth time in six games.

Rihards Kuksiks and Kyle Cain each scored 14 points and Trent Lockett added 12 for the Sun Devils (3-4), who have dropped three straight for the first time since the 2008-09 season.

Darrius Garrett broke a 54-54 tie with two free throws with 5:05 left. Cain made 1-of-2 free throws to pull Arizona State back within a point, but Garrett scored on a layup and Anderson added a running 8-footer to give the Spiders a 60-55 lead with 3:19 to play.

After Arizona State’s Ty Abbott sank a 3 to make it 65-61, he missed two 3-pointers and fumbled the ball out of bounds in the final 70 seconds.
