ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP)—Khalif Toombs scored 15 points to lead South Carolina State to a 68-56 win over Allen University on Tuesday night.
The Bulldogs (3-3) got off to a slow start against the NAIA Yellow Jackets (5-4). With the score tied for the fourth time, 14-14 with 9:22 left in the first half, South Carolina State went on a 14-4 run and led 38-23 at halftime.
The Bulldogs widened the lead to 18 at 50-32 on a layup by Joe Ikhinmwin. The Yellow Jackets (5-4) then used a 12-0 spurt to make it 50-44, but could get no closer.
Demetrice Terrell led Allen with 29 points and was the only Yellow Jackets player to score more than eight points.
Omar Sanders had 10 rebounds and 11 points for South Carolina State, which ended a two-game skid.
The Bulldogs outshot Allen from the field 47.1 percent (24 of 51) to 30.2 percent (16 of 53). South Carolina State also had a 40-31 rebounding edge.
