Pellum leads Hampton past Fordham 58-48
NEW YORK (AP)—Darrion Pellum scored 19 points and Hampton beat Fordham 58-48 on Friday night.
The Pirates (2-1) held a 42-40 lead with 8:17 left in the second half before going on an 11-1 run that spanned about six minutes. Pellum, who went 8-for-15 from the floor, knocked down his only 3-pointer of the game with 2:19 left to give Hampton a 53-41 lead.
The Rams (1-2) were unable to come closer than 10 points the rest of the way against the Pirates, who held Fordham to 32 percent shooting from the field and forced them into 21 turnovers. The Pirates took advantage of Fordham, scoring 22 points off its turnovers.
Hampton’s Charles Funches scored 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds, while Kwame Morgan added had 12 points.
Chris Gaston led Fordham with 17 points and 14 rebounds—six offensive— but had six turnovers. Alberto Estwick had 19 points and nine rebounds.
