Southern edges Auburn-Montgomery 74-72 in OT

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP)—Blake Sanford scored 22 points, including two clinching free throws in overtime, to lead Southern University to a 74-72 victory over Auburn-Montgomery on Wednesday night.

Julius Ingram added 17 points and 10 rebounds for the Jaguars (1-2).

Southern (1-2) led throughout overtime, building a seven-point advantage on Brandon White’s layup with 2:15 remaining.

A.J. Ansley cut Southern’s lead to 72-70 with 21 seconds left, but Sanford hit both of his free throw attempts for a four-point advantage.

Auburn-Montgomery’s Marquez Brooks missed a 3-pointer with 4 seconds left.

Auburn-Montgomery (0-5), an NAIA program, led 61-56 with 3:04 left, but had to force overtime on Charles Perona’s two free throws with 14 seconds remaining.

White scored 14 points for Southern.

Jerry Stangline scored 18 points and Stephen Jordan had 13 points and 11 rebounds for the Senators.
