Cent. Michigan 62, Hawaii 65
HONOLULU (AP)—Bill Amis scored 17 points and three teammates also reached double figures as Hawaii held off Central Michigan 65-62 in the Rainbow Classic on Tuesday.
Hiram Thompson had 15 points, Josten Thomas added 14 and Zane Johnson had 13 for Hawaii (3-0) in a game that started at 11 p.m. local time Monday as part of the ESPN College Hoops Tip-Off Marathon. The game ended at 1:15 a.m. Tuesday.
Johnson hit one of two free throws with 5.9 seconds left to give Hawaii a 64-62 lead. After a timeout, Central Michigan tried to inbound to Trey Zeigler, but the pass went off his hands and out of bounds.
Thomas was fouled with 4.2 seconds left and hit one of two free throws to make it a three-point game. Central Michigan?s Derek Jackson missed a half-court heave at the buzzer.
Zeigler scored 24 points for Central Michigan (1-2).
