Central Florida knocks off Tulane 61-54
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP)—A.J. Rompza scored 17 points and Central Florida used a 23-7 run in the final 9:42 as the Knights defeated Tulane 61-54 on Saturday.
UCF (12-12, 4-6 Conference USA) went more than 8 minutes without a field goal and trailed 47-39 after a 3-pointer by Tulane’s Johnny Mayhane.
The Knights held Tulane to one field goal from 9:42 until 57 seconds remained.
UCF took its first lead of the second half with 3:51 to play on a 3-pointer by Rompza, and Isaac Sosa followed with a 3-pointer 47 seconds later.
The Green Wave (7-17, 2-9) has lost seven of its past eight games and 10 of its last 12. UCF forced Tulane into 19 turnovers, including 13 in the second half, and the Green Wave made only 9 of 19 from the free throw line.
Rompza also had four assists and three steals.
Kendall Timmons scored 12 points and Asim McQueen had 10 points and six rebounds for Tulane.
