EUGENE, Ore. (AP)—Omar Samhan scored 22 points, Matt Dellavedova added 21 and Saint Mary’s held off a late Oregon rally to beat the Ducks 81-76 Saturday.
Clint Steindl also scored 14 for the Gaels (7-1), and Dellavedova had nine points in the final 3 minutes after Oregon had cut Saint Mary’s nine-point lead to one.
Malcolm Armstead scored 14 for the Ducks (4-4), who led 34-33 at halftime. E.J. Singler added 12 points and Michael Dunigan had 10.
Saint Mary’s led 68-59 with 5:41 remaining before Oregon went on an 8-0 run to cut it to 68-67 with 3:22 left. But Dellavedova hit his third 3-pointer of the game to put Saint Mary’s up 71-67 and the Gaels went 10 for 10 from the foul line in the final 1:25 to secure the victory.
While Oregon shot better from the field—50 percent to 47 percent—the Ducks made just 12 of 21 free throws while the Gaels were 20 of 24 from the line.
