HOUSTON (AP)—Aubrey Coleman scored 29 points and Kelvin Lewis added 22 as Houston defeated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 83-76 on Sunday.
Coleman and Lewis combined to hit 11 3-pointers for the Cougars (4-2), who won despite being outshot 50.0 percent-44.1 percent and outrebounded 44-28.
Houston was 11 for 29 from 3-point range while the Islanders (4-4) were 8 of 17.
Kevin Palmer paced Corpus Christi with 22 points.
A 3 by Lewis put Houston ahead 58-46 with 11:07 remaining, but the Corpus Christi quickly responded with a 15-5 run to pull within 63-61. The Islanders got within two points on two other occasions, including with 1:24 to play, but they couldn’t overcome the Cougars.
Houston ended the game on a 5-0 run.
