KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP)—Redshirt freshman Travon Woodall had 19 points and Ashton Gibbs added 18, leading Pittsburgh to a gritty 68-55 win over Wichita State in the semifinals of the CBE Classic on Monday night at the Sprint Center.

Pitt (4-0) labored through its first away game, shooting 55 percent in the second half to pull away down the stretch. Woodall had six rebounds, five assists and four steals to offset six turnovers, sending the Panthers to Tuesday’s championship game against No. 3 Texas or Iowa.

Wichita State (2-1) stayed close into the second half behind a loud pro-Shockers crowd and the shooting of Toure Murry but was hurt by 37 percent shooting in the first half and 24 turnovers. Murry had 20 points and J.T. Durley added 15.

every game they get better and better. They may not have played aany competition yet but Jamie Dixon will teach them the way. If they continue on the defense , they might just pull an upset of Texas. I beleive that this team is different from the 7 previous ones in that being better shooting. If they get hot shooting they will surprise alot of people. I know i is a long season, but they do have talent and great coaching. Lets go Pitt!

First real test comes tomorrow. If Texas beats Iowa (as they should do easily) lets see how this young Pitt team plays against one of the best in the country. I don't expect them to win; even with Brown and Dixon they would clearly be outmatched. But if they play tough and keep it under 14, it will bode very, very well for Big East play. Jamie Dixon is an artist.

Game by game, the young Panthers continue to improve in every area. They will only get better with the eventual returns of Jermaine Dixon and Gilbert Brown. This will be a team you won't wanna face come february.
