Rosario leads Rutgers past Marist 74-67
PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP)—Mike Rosario scored 17 points and two others scored in double figures, and Rutgers beat Marist 74-67 on Saturday in the season opener for both teams.
Patrick Jackson had 15 points and Gregory Echenique had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Scarlett Knights.
The Scarlett Knights dominated close to the basket, scoring 34 points in the paint.
Rob Johnson led the Red Foxes with 15 points. Marist rallied late in the second half, trimming a 14-point deficit to seven points with 1 minute remaining.
After the Red Foxes missed a 3-pointer, a layup by Echenique with 42 seconds remaining iced the game for the Scarlett Knights.
Rutgers led 41-35 at halftime and went on an 11-4 run to open the second half to build a 13 point-lead. Rosario scored six points during that stretch.
