NEWARK, N.J. (AP)—Eugene Harvey hit a one-handed 28-footer at the buzzer to lift Seton Hall to a 53-51 victory over St. Peter’s in the season opener for both teams on Friday night.

Wesley Jenkins, who scored 16 points for St. Peter’s, had made a spinning jumper in the lane with 3.6 seconds left to give the Peacocks a 51-50 lead.

Seton Hall pushed the ball up the floor and Harvey, who also finished with 16 points, launched the winning 3-pointer.

Robert Mitchell added 11 points for Seton Hall, including four in the final minute.

The Pirates’ Jeremy Hazell, one of the nation’s top scorers a year ago at 22.7 points per game, was held without a field goal and finished with two points.

It was the 14th straight time that Seton Hall defeated their in-state rivals in a series dating to 1932. The Pirates own a 58-23 series lead.

Thats the way to pull one out. But come on, we were playing St. Peters.Mr. Hazell, you have to be kididng me right? did you forget you had a game or did you not practice? Eugene ,that was a great game and a great game winner. Overall, we played really well on the Defensive side of the ball. We have to start shooting the ball better. Mithcell nice game, Pope good season opener. Too bad we wont have Keon for a while due to the DUI.
