HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP)—Stefon Jackson scored 30 points and Randy Culpepper added 23 to lead Texas-El Paso to a 81-70 victory over Southern Mississippi on Saturday night.
The Miners (19-11, 10-6 Conference USA) have won six of their last eight games. UTEP also beat the Golden Eagles (14-16, 4-12) earlier in the season, winning 87-75 in El Paso, Texas in late January.
Culpepper, who went 4 of 8 from beyond the arc, hit a 3-pointer with 4 seconds left in the first and the Miners took a 45-29 lead into halftime. Jason Jones made the first shot of the second half with a 3-pointer, pushing UTEP’s lead to 19—its largest margin—and Southern Miss could not get closer than nine the rest of the way.
R.L. Horton finished with 21 points for Southern Miss, which has lost five straight and 10 of its last 11. Courtney Beasley added 16 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.
