RICHMOND, Va. (AP)—Pierre Curtis scored 19 points to lead James Madison in a 70-48 rout of William & Mary in the first round of the Colonial Athletic Association tournament Friday.
James Madison (19-13) broke a string of five consecutive first-round losses. The seventh-seeded Dukes will play second-seeded George Mason in the quarterfinals Saturday.
Juwann James added 12 points for the Dukes, who hit 13-of-22 field goals in the second half.
The Dukes went on a 10-3 run to end the first half, taking a 32-25 lead at halftime.
After the Tribe (10-20) closed the margin to five early in the second half, James Madison scored 17 of the next 19 points, led by five points from Curtis, who went 7 of 8 from the field. William & Mary shot 1-for-9 from the floor with five turnovers during the span.
Danny Sumner led the Tribe with 19 points.
