HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP)—Tim Meadows and Michael Griffin scored 17 points each and Prairie View A&M defeated Alabama A&M 82-80 on Monday night.
The Bulldogs led 78-77 on a jumper by Trant Simpson with 44 seconds left, before the Panthers (14-15, 10-6 Southwestern Athletic Conference) scored five straight points. Darnell Hugee started the run on a layup with 30 seconds to go, and added a foul shot two seconds later for a 80-78 Prairie View advantage.
Ahead by two, the Panthers’ Christopher Jones stole the ball from Desmond Jackson and hit two free throws for an 82-78 lead with 10 seconds to play. Cornelius Hester hit the game’s final shot with 1 second to go for the Bulldogs.
The Panthers, who tallied 10 steals, scored 31 points off 19 Alabama A&M turnovers.
The Bulldogs (7-17, 5-11) were paced by Hester with 25 points, Simpson with 24 and Casey Cantey with 22.
