South Carolina State beats Bethune-Cookman 65-53

ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP)—Jason Johnson scored 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to help South Carolina State beat Bethune-Cookman 65-53 on Saturday.

Jessie Burton, Jimmy Williams and Westley Telfare also scored 13 points apiece for the Bulldogs (14-13, 9-6 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference). The Bulldogs won their eighth game in their last 10 contests. Two of those wins were against the Wildcats.

C.J. Reed paced the Wildcats (14-15, 8-7) with 19 points, John Holmes added 15 and Alexander Starling grabbed 10 rebounds. The Wildcats had their two-game winning streak snapped.

The Bulldogs shot 50 percent from the field (24 of 48) in the win compared to just a 38.9 percent mark (21 of 54) for the Wildcats. The Bulldogs hit seven 3-pointers while the Wildcats sank just two.
