STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP)—Talor Battle scored 16 points and Penn State overcame another subpar performance at the foul line to defeat Indiana 61-58 on Saturday.
Jamelle Cornley added 10 points for the Nittany Lions (20-9, 9-7 Big Ten), who reached the 20-win plateau for the first time since 2000-01—the last time they made the NCAA tournament.
Devan Dumes had 16 for Indiana (6-22, 1-15), which lost its sixth straight. The Hoosiers’ 22 losses on the season extended a school record.
Verdell Jones III also scored 16 for Indiana, which led 57-53 with 5:26 left before Battle and Cornley sparked the Nittany Lions down the stretch.
Battle saved a possession by scrambling for a ball headed out of bounds, then later dished off to Cornley for a dunk that gave Penn State the lead for good with 56 seconds left.
Penn State was 7-of-17 on the day from the foul line.
