NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP)—Marcus Allen scored five of his eight points in the final minute of overtime to help Jacksonville seal an 84-82 win over Belmont on Saturday night in the regular-season finale for both teams.
The win clinched the Atlantic Sun Conference crown for the Dolphins (17-12, 15-5), assuring them the top seed in the conference tournament, which starts on Wednesday.
Down 80-78 with 1:03 to play in overtime, Allen grabbed a rebound off teammate Ben Smith’s missed jumper, got fouled and hit his free throws to tie the score at 80-80. After Jon House put the Bruins (18-11, 14-6) back up with a pair of foul shots, Allen nailed a 3-pointer to put the Dolphins up for good with 35 seconds left.
Smith, who led Jacksonville with 25 points, scored 14 of those in the final 4:39 of regulation to force overtime.
Alex Renfroe paced Belmont with 32 points.
