RICHMOND, Va. (AP)—Kevin Anderson scored 19 points and hit four of Richmond’s eight free throws in the final 1:55 Saturday night to help the Spiders defeat Charlotte 65-58.
Kevin Smith added 11 points for Richmond (14-13, 6-6 Atlantic 10 Conference), while David Gonzalves had a career-high 13 rebounds.
Lamont Mack led Charlotte (10-16, 4-8) with 22 points and 10 rebounds. DeJuan Harris added 14 points and eight assists—just under his average of 8.4 assists.
The 49ers are 0-6 on the road in the conference.
Neither team had more than a six-point lead until Anderson’s two free throws with 58.5 seconds left gave Richmond a 60-52 lead.
The Spiders used a 16-4 run to take a 49-43 lead with 8:15 remaining. Richmond had only two field goals the rest of the game—a pair of Anderson 3-pointers. However, Charlotte had just five field goals in the final 11:26.
