WASHINGTON (AP)—Nick Hendra scored 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to help American University beat Colgate 69-44 on Saturday, extending its winning streak to six games.
The Eagles (17-7, 9-1 Patriot League), who have won 12 of their last 13 contests, used a 15-2 run in the first half to claim a 20-6 lead. A 3-pointer by Brian Gilmore pushed American’s advantage to 20 points with 3:13 left before halftime.
Derrick Mercer finished with 15 points for the Eagles. Garrison Carr and Gilmore each scored 11.
The Raiders (9-15, 5-6) cut the lead to 34-23 with 18:42 left in the second half on a three-point play by Mike Venezia, who led Colgate with 14 points. But American outscored the Raiders 23-8 over the next 11 minutes to take a 57-31 lead. Hendra’s jumper later pushed the lead to 30 points.
American shot 51 percent from the field, holding Colgate to 31.3 percent.
