Jacksonville holds off Kennesaw St. 59-56
KENNESAW, Ga. (AP)—Lehmon Colbert scored 13 points, including Jacksonville’s only 3-pointer of the game, and the Dolphins survived a late Kennesaw State rally to win 59-56 on Monday night.
The victory snapped the Dolphins’ (13-10, 11-3 Atlantic Sun Conference) two-game skid and helped them move into a three-way tie for first in the league.
Colbert, who became the 26th player in school history to score 1,000 career points, hit Jacksonville’s only successful 3 in 11 attempts with 3:38 left to lead 57-48.
The Owls (7-16, 3-11) went on a 8-2 run, capped by Kelvin McConnell’s 3-pointer with 49 seconds left, to cut the deficit to 59-56.
Jon-Michael Nickerson’s game-tying try from the top of the key missed.
The Dolphins hit 20-of-22 free throws and won for the first time this season when getting outrebounded (30-24).
Nickerson paced the Owls with 13 points.
